University of Sheffield
Once home to the British steel industry, Sheffield is now shaking off its industrial legacy and repackaging itself as a vibrant and salubrious city. Not only is it fortunate enough to be on the doorstep of the Peak District National Park, but it also has more trees per capita than any other city in Europe. The University of Sheffield was founded in 1905 and has 27,000 students (including 9,000 postgraduates). It is ranked by QS (2013) in the top 75 universities in the world and is very well regarded in the fields of engineering and modern languages.
